I am an artist, assistant manager of a dynamite rock shop and an author wannabe. I have lived in Iran, Liberia, and five U.S. states. I have degrees in Anthropology and Latin American Studies, as well as many graduate hours in jewelry design. I studied art at the University of Colorado and UNM, and was one of the first artists-in-the-schools, back in the 1970s. From 1975 to 1980, my family and I owned an art gallery in Albuquerque's Old Town, The Painted Parrott. From oil paintings I moved to pen and ink drawings, which feature brilliant color, strong line and a slightly cockeyed slant on the world. I studied with Lakota fetish carver Delbert Charging Crow, and I bring a Celtic sensibility to my stone carvings, specializing in hands made of soapstone and alabaster, as well as little animals, including bears, birds and frogs. I have been busting loose with my assemblages, in which I combine everything but the kitchen sink to create landscapes, angels and abstracts. My watercolor/mixed media pieces focus on trees, yet another obsession of mine.
