Margaret Parrott earned her degree in art from the University of Wisconsin in 1940. She spent a lifetime teaching and creating art. Her surreal canvases and watercolors fantasies reflect a life of travel and a continually broadening interest in masks, which represent the universality of ideas, beliefs, and dreams. Her oil abstracts show a compelling contrast between strongly controlled technique and explosive use of color, emphasized by the minimal application of paint and the maximum flow of hue and shape. Each canvas is named for identification purposes only. The true name must be given by the owner, for each person sees a different idea expressed. She has designed four decks of playing cards: one decorated with Kachinas; one with Northwest Coast Indian masks; one with parrots; and a Tarot deck.
