Born in upstate New York Marsha moved with her family to the southwest at an early age. Influenced by the unique beauty and culture of the area she began painting and pastel drawing at 13. She studied art at the University of New Mexico but chose banking as her career. Retiring after 35 years in the banking industry, she returned her focus to art. Her interest in gourds began in 2003 when she transformed small gourds into brightly colored folk art chickens. The inspired teachings of a local gourd artist encouraged experimentation with different techniques for decorating gourds and awakened a true passion for gourds and gourd art. She shares this passion by teaching “Beginning Gourd Art” classes to novice enthusiasts. Marsha’s work has been displayed at the Fine Arts exhibit, Expo New Mexico and various Gourd Shows. She is represented by Amapola Gallery in Old Town, Albuquerque. Marsha says: “Gourds are fascinating to me. Each uniquely shaped and patterned gourd presents endless opportunities for artistic expression.”
